1. Disabled Young People's Participation in Sport 2001

The overall aim of this study is to identify current levels of participation in sport by young people with a disability. The primary objectives of the research are to:

-Identify, across a range of sports, current levels of participation in sport by young people with a disability and compare this with data from the 'Young People & Sport Survey 1999'
-Identify barriers to participation in sport by young people with a disability
-Make recommendations on future action to increase participation in sport by young people with a disability.

2. Disabled Adults' Participation in Sport 2001

The aims of this study are to identify current levels of participation in sport by adults with a disability and their views on the barriers and constraints which may prevent them from taking part in sport. The primary objectives of the research are to:

-Develop an appropriate definition of disability which can be used consistently in all of Sport England's research related to disability.
-Identify, across a range of sports, current levels of participation in sport by adults with a disability and retrospective information on participation at key stages in their life
-Identify perceived barriers to participation in sport by adults with a disability and their views on what would encourage them to take part in sport
-Assist Sport England in interpreting the research evidence to make recommendations on future action to increase participation in sport by adults with a disability.
