Sports Clubs and Facilities

Clubmark Scheme
Clubmark is a cross-sport quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections. Sport England recognises and values the commitment made by sports clubs to develop high quality, welcoming environments for young participants. The development of clubs that encourage young people to take-up sport, improve their talents, possibly play a leadership role and give them the option to initiate and maintain life-long participation in sport is an essential part of supporting the sporting infrastructure in England. The Clubmark scheme is currently managed nationally by Knight, Kavanagh & Page (KKP) who maintain an up to date list of clubs who have been accredited on the clubmark website. The Football Association (FA) have their own version of the scheme that requires clubs to meet the same levels of standards as contained in clubmark. A list of accredited clubs can be obtained from the FA website.

-Active London Web Portal

The ‘Get Active London’ project aims to create a ‘one-stop-online resource’ of sport and physical activity opportunities in London. The system will signpost users to opportunities on offer (clubs, facilities, events & activities) and will include an alert system to allow users to keep up to date with the latest information. In addition, the system will provide essential management information for sports development professionals for planning and reporting purposes. The project is backed by the GLA and is included in the ‘London 2012 Sport Legacy Plan’ and is one of the interventions being used to increase participation in sport and physical activity in the capitol. The project is being led and funded by the 5 Pro-Active London Partnerships in collaboration with key stakeholders including: NGBs, NHS London, London Sports Forum for Disabled People, school sport and local authorities. A collaboration of Nemysis and Substance have won the contract to provide the IT system for the project. Nemysis are the supplier of the 5 Pro-Active London websites and have an extensive track record in supplying IT / communication solutions to the sport and other sectors.  Substance won the Department for Children, Schools and Families ‘Information and Signposting’ of teenagers positive activities contract in August 2008, and as a result, the Get Active London project will benefit from their existing data sets (e.g. NGBs, Active Places) and the promotional tools they have developed. The project is currently in the design and development stage with the London boroughs acting as trailblazers to support the project team to create a system that is fit for purpose –  It is planned that trailblazer boroughs will be in a position to go live by summer 2009, with full coverage and a London launch planned by the end of the year. Project lead officers in each Pro-Active region will be contacting other boroughs in the next few months to organise initial meetings.

Building Schools for the Future

About

Partnerships for Schools, together with the Youth Sport Trust and Sport England, have jointly recognised the value that PE and Sport can add to the Building Schools for the Future Programme. These three organisations have appointed three PE and Sport Advisers to work strategically with key partners, PfS colleagues and local authorities participating in BSF. For Wave 5 authorities onwards, it is now a requirement to establish a PE and Sport Stakeholder group to contribute sector-specific advice to their BSF process. Partnerships for Schools has produced a number of resources on that are primarily aimed to support PE and Sport Stakeholder groups but may also be of interest to anyone involved in BSF or an equivalent programme.
